Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane popularly known as Zizou, was a French professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Renowned as one of the greatest players of all time, Zidane was an elite play maker known for his elegance, vision, passing, ball control and technique.

Accomplishments:

He received many accolades as a player and also helped his team both national and clubs in winning competitions and titles. He was named FIFA Player of the Year thrice in 1998, 2000 and 2003. Zidane also won 1998 FIFA ballon d’Or. He was voted Ligue 1 Player of the Year in 1996, Serie A Footballer of the Year in 2001 , and La Liga Best Foreign Player in 2002.

Zidane in his career moved to different big clubs such as Juventus, Real Madrid. His move to Real Madrid happened for a world record fee at that time i.e: €77.5 million in 2001, which remained unmatched for the next 8 years. With Real Madrid Zidane won a La Liga title and also a UEFA Champions League in 2002, in which he scored a left footed volley winner which is considered to be one of the greatest goals in competition’s history.

Zidane won the 1998 FIFA World Cup with France, scoring two goals in the final. He was named to the All Star Team. He became a national hero in France, and received the Légion d’honneur in 1998. He won UEFA Euro 2000 , and was named Player of the Tournament. He also received the Golden Ball for Player of the Tournament at the 2006 World Cup. undefined

The French legend had a great impact on the game because of his quality.

Ball Control Mastery: Zidane was quite brilliant with ball control thing. He could take the ball perfectly out of the air, long passes , take a touch in the direction he wanted to go. Because of his ball control it was difficult for other players to get near him. He could beat players simply by his first touch or ball control.

Mastery of the Simple: Where most of the players want to learn fancy tricks and skill, Zidane had mastery over the simple basics. This made him quite different from others. He was so good with every simple pass, touch, shot . He didn’t do anything fancy. He just did it effective which looked so good.

Ability under pressure: Zidane’s ability to keep posession under pressure is one of his best skill. He could beat 1v1 any player keeping the ball alive and rushing towards the opposition goal. He mastered step overs, the Maradona Spin and many other skills and tricks which made him one of the best and most effective players.

Vision: Zidane’s vision of the game and field made him quite the master of game. He could create chances for his teammates, look for the gaps between the lines and make exquisite passes.

Weaknesses:

Despite being a great player, and good in every aspect of game, Zidane had a short temper. He head butted an Italian player in the World Cup Final 2006. And later lost the Final as he was shown red card and sent off.
